Kavi and Amoda’s Divine Chocolate recipe

Kavi Jezzie Hockaday and Amoda Maa are two dear friends who have opened up our Food, Nutrition and Wellness worlds considerably since we first met.

One of the first recipes they showed us was for this Divine Chocolate, made from Raw Cacao. We went wild for it on first taste, and now make it ourselves on a regular basis.

What’s brilliant about this Chocolate is that it doesn’t contain any of the ingredients that you find in ‘normal’ chocolate that make it bad for you. In fact, the opposite is the case; it’s a super food – it’s good for you!

We find that the Cacao has a really energy- boost attribute that’s similar in some ways to caffeine. In fact I read that it produces as similar effect to caffeine on the brain, but without any of the negative side effects, so be careful not to have too much before bedtime, or you may find sleep difficult.

I like to break up a couple of chunks onto my Homemade Probiotic Yoghurt for breakfast in the morning, or watch it melt on top of my Chinese-Medicine-Doctor-Approved Rice Pudding – it’s a delicious way to take on board some superfood goodness.

Ingredients:

Equal weights (we use 100g) of:

Cacao butter
Coconut oil
Lacuma powder
Raw Cacao powder

Plus a big pinch of organic Maldon Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt (we use Olde Thomson)

All of the above ingredients should raw and organic if possible. Follow the links to see the brands we use.

Sweetener to taste – We don’t usually add a sweetener, but recognise that it might be an acquired taste; I have a sweet tooth, so like some honey in it. You could also use something like Stevia or Agave Syrup, although Agave’s not good for people with IBD’s. We’ve just discovered Palmyra Jaggery (SugaVida in the US), which is really nice and has some health benefits too. Kavi adds vanilla extract as well, which is delicious.

We sometimes include other fun additions like chopped dates, Goji Berries, almonds or cashews.

For a full-on energy powerfood, add magic Maca Powder.

Watch Kavi talk you through the recipe at the bottom of the page, or follow the directions below.

Directions

Melt the butter and the oil in a pan, very very slowly so that they don’t cook, and stay raw.

Mix the powders together, and then pour the oil into the powders, mixing it in as you go.

Stir in sweetener, dates, berries or nuts if required.

Pour the mixture into a container – we have a couple of chocolate moulds that are fun to use, as you end up with ‘proper’ pieces – and pop it in the fridge to set.

Easy!
